What is a chestnut solid wood panel?
A chestnut panel is a wide board made by gluing Turkish chestnut lamellas along their edges. It is chestnut through its whole section, with no particleboard or MDF core. It can be sanded and refinished years later.
Look
Chestnut has a warm tone between light and mid brown, close to honey. The grain is pronounced and the look is close to oak, but without oak's bright ray flecks. It suits projects that want an oak-like look in a different species.
Finger-jointed or solid
- Finger-jointed: each lamella is made of shorter pieces joined end to end. The joints show as a thin line.
- Solid (full-length staves): each lamella is one piece from end to end. The surface looks calmer and more uniform.
Thicknesses
Typical thicknesses are 18 mm and 30 mm; 25 and 28 mm are sometimes available.
